ABOUT THE ART

Formal Analysis

The landscape is organized through horizontal pressure, tonal layering, and quiet fields of pigment. Water does not behave as a transparent mirror. It reads as mineral matter, dense and suspended. The restrained surface allows small shifts in stain, edge, and color to do the work of atmosphere. The title gives the stillness a physical weight, and the composition answers with a broad, measured field that feels vast without becoming empty. The painting depends on control, absorption, and the material behavior of watercolor.

Giao Analysis

Giao also has room for difficult kinds of exchange. The Dead Sea is a place where water carries unusual density and leaves its effects on whatever enters it. The painting turns that condition into a meditation on contact, weight, and suspension. Its quietness is not neutral. It comes from a landscape altered by mineral concentration and time. Giao reads the work as an invitation to consider how environments shape bodies and memories, even when the relation is not easy, fertile, or immediately visible.

Yui Nguyen

yui nguyen artist qart gallery profile pic

Yui Nguyen is a writer and visual artist in Ho Chi Minh City. He contributes cultural pieces to Vietcetera, where his work connects everyday life to design, language, and craft, in a clear, conversational voice. In the studio he moves between painting, calligraphy, and language experiments. He co-leads Our Vietnamese Project with Pham Phan Nhan, a research practice that treats Vietnamese as a living system inside computational art.

In 2025 the project was named a Lumen Prize Literature and Poetry Award finalist. The shortlist credits Nhan Phan and Yui Nguyen for work that probes the monosyllabic structure of Vietnamese through custom tools and poetics.

For artists who think in decades, not feeds.

Giao is building something slow and deliberate - a space where your work lives alongside Classics and Contemporaries, the art that shaped it and the artists it will shape in turn. If you make work that asks questions, we'd like to know you.
