ABOUT THE ART

Formal Analysis

The triptych spreads its imagery across a long, continuous field. A central catfish like mass gathers waves, figures, and symbolic fragments into one circulating system, while liquid transitions keep the three parts from reading as separate scenes. The eye moves laterally through curved contours and saturated color, then returns to the swollen central form. Scale, repetition, and flow make consumption visible as a compositional principle. The work holds together because its parts appear to be drawn inward, absorbed, and altered by the same body.

Giao Analysis

Giao reads the catfish as an image of inheritance carried in the body. The work begins with the artist's move to Saigon and the realization that Northern Vietnamese culture had already shaped him, even when it was not immediately visible. Nothing here is preserved as a clean emblem. Waves, lineage, migration, appetite, and memory are folded into one moving organism. That is rooted fluidity in a concrete form: identity remains connected to origin while being continuously changed by the places and people it encounters.

TheG Ngom

TheG Ngom

theg ngom artist qart gallery profile pic

TheG Ngợm, born in 2000 in Hà Nội, Vietnam, is a contemporary artist working primarily in painting. He studied at Hanoi Architectural University and lives and practices in Hà Nội.

Working with acrylic on canvas, TheG Ngợm constructs vivid, theatrical compositions that draw from Vietnamese folk imagery, spiritual symbolism, and ritual spatial structures. His paintings stage animals, mythical figures, and ritual environments such as altars and hòn non bộ (Vietnamese miniature landscape gardens) within contemporary contexts. Drawing from Vietnamese folk symbolism and spiritual imagery, he builds saturated, highly symbolic compositions that examine belief, value, and spectacle in modern life.

Through layered narratives and recurring motifs, TheG Ngợm creates scenes that oscillate between reverence and irony, exposing the tension between tradition and modern perception. His work positions cultural symbols not as fixed heritage, but as active elements continuously reshaped by contemporary experience.

For artists who think in decades, not feeds.

Giao is building something slow and deliberate - a space where your work lives alongside Classics and Contemporaries, the art that shaped it and the artists it will shape in turn. If you make work that asks questions, we'd like to know you.
